How do I get my certificate?

You will need to purchase the course, complete the course, and pass the test. Upon successful completion of the course and test, you will receive your Certificate of Completion. Some locations require additional steps. See the “Course Details” tab for the course you are purchasing to learn if any additional steps are required in your area.

 

 

What score do I need to pass the test?

This varies by location. Most courses require 70-80% passing grade, but some areas may require a different score. See the “Course Details” on the course selection page for the course you are purchasing to learn what the passing grade is for your area.

How many times can I take the test?

This varies by location. Most courses come with two test attempts. See the “Course Details” on the course selection page for the course you are purchasing to learn how many test attempts are allowed in your area.

If you are having difficulty passing the test, it may be helpful to review the course again.

What do I do if I fail the course?

After completing all available test attempts and failing to pass the test, you will need to purchase the course again. 

 

Is it possible to sign up for a course without an email address?

No, it is not possible to sign up for a course without an email address. We ask for an email address to increase the security of the website and your personal information. An email provides you with a receipt and the ability to recover your password if necessary. 

How long does it take to complete the food handler course?

The course and test generally take about 2 hours to complete. However, it could take longer if you wish to review important course information to be better prepared for the exam and your work in food service.

What forms of payment are accepted by StateFoodSafety?

StateFoodSafety accepts all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express). Prepaid cards (Walmart, Visa Gift Card, NetSpend, etc.) are also accepted. Paper checks are accepted only for group invoice payments. We do not accept cash.

If I don’t have access to a printer to print off the Certificate of Completion, what should I do?

You can log into your account and print your certificate from any computer with internet access and a printer. You can find computers with these requirements at the library, a printing company, or possibly a friend’s house. 

 

How long is my food handler card valid?

This varies by location. Most courses are valid for 2 years. If you have already completed the course, consult your certificate of completion. On your certificate, you can usually (but not always) find information for how many years your certificate is valid.

How can I recover my username and password information?

First, check your email for the Order Confirmation you received when you purchased the course. That email contains your username and password. 

If you are unable to find your Order Confirmation, you may reset your username or password. To reset your information, click the “Forgot Your Username or Password?” link on the log-in page and follow the instructions. Your information will be reset and a new username or password will be sent to your email. 

How do I create a username and password?

You will be prompted to create a unique username and password when you register to purchase a course. Your username and password will become active when the transaction is complete. 

How do I purchase a course?

Select the course you would like to purchase by clicking on the “Courses” tab on the homepage of the website. Select your state and (if necessary) select your city or county, and proceed to Checkout. If you do not have an account with StateFoodSafety, enter your information and continue the Checkout process. Finally, enter your billing information to purchase the course.

What do I do if I cannot get past the Account Login & Permit Holder Information page?

Step 1: Check that all of the required fields are filled in.

Step 2: Change your username. We have a vast database of users and it is possible that your username has been used by someone else.

Step 3: Make sure that your username and password do not include any symbols or spaces.

I’ve passed the test, but I can’t see my certificate, what do I do?

Make sure you are using an updated browser; we suggest Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Also, make sure you have a PDF reader installed and enabled. If you are signed in, but have exited the course, you can see your certificate by clicking the “Dashboard” tab on the homepage of the website.

Where can I get a receipt?

Option 1: Receipts are sent automatically to the email address you provided when you purchased the course. If you do not find one, check your spam or junk mail.

Option 2: Log into your account. If you are signed in, but have exited the course, you can see a list of your purchases by clicking the “Dashboard” tab on the homepage of the website and then clicking on “My Account.”

What if I need to stop in the middle of the course?

You can log in and out of your course as needed. When you log back in, continue your course by clicking the “Dashboard” tab on the homepage of the website. Click “Resume” to continue where you left off. 

How do I make a group purchase?

What languages are available?

Currently, StateFoodSafety offers food handler training in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Serbo-Croatian, and American Sign Language.

I’m having trouble seeing the course videos, what do I do?

Make sure you are using an updated browser; we suggest Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Also make sure Adobe Flash is enabled and up-to-date.

How do I access my certificate?

How do I renew my certificate?

In order to renew your certificate you will need to repurchase and retake the course.

How do I login to my account?

On the StateFoodSafety homepage, the login button is located at the top right corner of the page. If you are on a mobile device (i.e. tablet, smartphone), you should see 3 small lines at the top right corner of the screen; when you tap these lines, more options will drop down on the page including the orange login button.

How does StateFoodSafety maintain the zip code database that enables a user to locate the closest testing provider?

StateFoodSafety utilizes the Geonames.org service that is provided through a creative commons attribution 3.0 license. Geonames.org is not responsible and holds no liability for errors in the zip code database. Information about Geonames can be found at Geonames.org.
